Keith Edmund Ludlow
1947 – 1992
A Short Biography

Keith Edmund Ludlow was born in Harrow on July 17th, 1947, the son of Christopher George Ludlow (1918 - 1999) and Gwladys Mary Ludlow nee Stephens (1913 - 1995).

He moved with the family from Stanmore in Middlesex to Canterbury, where he started school. From there he moved to Essex and then to Winchester where he attended the Peter Symonds School.

He studied Mathematics at Bedford College, London University and attended the first course for the diploma in Yacht and Boat Design at Southampton College of Technology.

He joined the Rating Office of the Royal Ocean Racing Club in June 1973 and became Assistant Rating Secretary in January 1974. He was Rating Secretary from January 1977 until September 1982.

He continued as a Consultant to the Offshore Racing Council and in addition became their Deputy Chief Measurer in 1982. He was a keen offshore Yachtsman, and until the onset of his illness, raced as a navigator for Sir Maurice Laing. He died suddenly on November 12th, 1992.

The family collection of artefacts, letters, documents, photographs and diaries set off Keith’s interest in family history and he joined the Bristol and Avon and the Gloucester Family History Societies early on, and the Society of Genealogists in 1975.

He collected a vast amount of information about Ludlows worldwide and recorded it on his computer. He was able to help a great number of people who got to hear how knowledgeable he was.

Douglas Ludlow has rendered a valuable service in making these details accessible in a way that Keith’s parents, not being computer literate, could not have done!
